Group Bios

Noah toured with THE TOKENS since 1993. He is a playwright, a children's author, and a handyman. He has taught elementary school and also currently serves as a governing board member  for the Beverly Hills Unified School District. He is only the third  person in California history to win a write-in campaign. When not on stage, he runs a construction and property management company with his  wife, Laura. He has three children, Jax, Reese and the one listed below whom with he shares the stage.

Rebecca began singing with The Tokens at age 15, as part of the group "Those Girls." She has been acting in musical theatre, since  she was 3, and has performed in productions on both coasts. Rebecca recently graduated college with a bachelors degree in theatre, and is currently directing, choreographing, and musical directing children’s theatre. Additionally, Rebecca shares her own recording studio with her dad, connecting them to many independent musical acts. 

Jay attended the "real" High School of the Performing Arts  in New York where he learned his arranging and composing skills, as well as the various woodwind instruments he plays. He then attended Berklee  College of Music where he studied performance. You could say that Jay  has practically "done it all," from being a former member of  "Sha-Na-Na," to Music Coordinator for the CBS daytime drama, "The Young and the Restless," to his 30-year tenure as a member of THE TOKENS.

Phil (1942-2021)

Phil was a multi-media entrepreneur who ran the gamut from producing gold records to writing novels and everything in-between. Born in Brooklyn in 1942, Phil reveled in his amazing childhood. He loved the Dodgers, Devil Dogs and Nathans. Phil began his incredible career, along with his younger brother Mitch as founding members of the world-renowned Tokens. Their hit, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is still considered one of the best pop-songs of all time. Phil and the group moved on to have several gold records as recording artists bringing the world such hits as “Tonight I Fell In Love,” “I Hear Trumpets Blow,” and “Portrait of My Love.” As producers they produced and popularized acts such as The Chiffons (“He’s So Fine,” “One Fine Day,”), The Happenings (“See You In September,” “I’ve Got Rhythm,”),  Randy & The Rainbows (“Denise”) and Tony Orlando and Dawn (“Candida,” “Knock Three Times,” “Tie A Yellow Ribbon”). Though having their roots in Doo-Wopp the Tokens expanded their musical horizons with successful releases spanning four decades including Intercourse in 1968, Cross Country in 1973, Re-Doo-Wopp in 1988 and Esta Noche El Leon Baila in 1996. The Tokens were a family business as Phil and his brother Mitch continued touring through 2017. Phil’s son, Noah, toured with the group as a drummer and musician for twenty-five years along with close friends Jay Leslie, Mike Johnson and on occasion Phil’s daughter Neely. Phil even got the chance to perform with his grandsons Solomon and Ethan. Phil loved the honesty with the audience and he would boast about his wife, Abbie and his mother, Ruthie. 

From his music career Phil branched onto Broadway contributing the music and lyrics for the show, A Matter Of Time. From there, Phil found his way to Hollywood, spending over a decade managing the career of Robert Guillaume during his Emmy award winning show Benson. Phil also began writing and producing television movies for both Robert and Gary Coleman, having a string of successful films featuring The Kid With the 200 I.Q. and The Fantastic World of D.C. Collins. He also co-wrote and co-produced This Wife for Hire,  as well as The Goddess of Love. Phil never stopped writing as he published his first novel, The Null Quotient in 2010. He was a black belt in Kung Fu San Soo as well as an avid softball player and pilot.

"Johnny Micheals" as Jay Leslie affectionately calls him performed with the group from the early 1990' until 2019. Mike is an arranger, vocalist, keyboard player and occasionally spotted picking up the guitar. He bakes a mean banana bread and is enjoying his retirement.
